The bottle may have come into contact with sunscreen. Some sunscreens, lotions, oils and bug repellants have ingredients that can affect the finish or the printed design of water bottles. Scientists have shown that the chemical makeup of these products breaks down with exposure to moisture and sun—and this process can react with the bottle finish to make it appear cloudy. When using sunscreen, wash your hands with soap and water before handling your bottle.
The first step to keeping your reservoir clean is to empty out and dry it after every ride. Every few rides, we suggest sanitizing your reservoir using our all-in-one cleaning kit with brush, cleaning tabs and hanger clip. Pro tip from CamelBak athlete Eric Porter – if you can’t dry it all the way, store your reservoir in the freezer after cleaning to prevent any bacteria from growing before your next ride.
We put safety first when we’re designing our kids’ bottles—and that includes putting them through rigorous third-party testing. We also test our bottles independently to make sure there aren’t any kid-specific hazards related to choking or broken parts. Congress and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) have strengthened safety standards in response to public concerns over product safety. We actively support these improvements and ensure all of our products comply fully with the new rules and reporting requirements.
The Fusion reservoirs should be stored dry with the zipper in the closed position. We recommend washing and drying after each use. Failure to store your Fusion reservoir with the zipper closed can result in leaking. PRO TIP : shove a paper towel in the reservoir before zipping up to absorb any excess moisture that may be left in the reservoir. PRO TIP: store your empty reservoir in the freezer as an extra layer of protection from the chance of bacteria build-up.
No matter the temperature, it’s important to stay hydrated. At cold enough temperatures, the water in your tube can freeze, making it impossible to drink from your pack. One option is to swap out your Crux® reservoir with a StoAway insulated hydration bladder to turn any pack into an all-season hydration pack or to grab one of our insulated snow hydration packs. The Crux reservoir that came with your favorite hydration backpack can also be winterized: simply replace the hose and install the Crux Thermal Control kit (only compatible with reservoirs that include Quicklink™), with insulated tube and Freeze-Proof Valve. CamelBak athlete Eric Porter shows how to insulate your tube and valve to keep the water from freezing in harsh winter conditions. Plus, more hacks and tips to keep the water in your hydration pack flowing on frozen adventures.
If your Eddy+ bottle is leaking, you might have an object trapped in the vent valve. Turn the cap over, and look under the round, grey, rubber flap. If you carefully peel back the rubber seal and clean out the inner workings of the vent valve, the leak should stop. Important: Don’t remove the rubber gasket for cleaning purposes, because it’s impossible to reattach. If your leak persists, we will be happy to replace the leaking cap for a brand new one with our Got Your Bak lifetime guarantee. Visit our Warranty Page for more information.
It’s best not to—many of our bottles include a metal screw in the cap that will have sparks flying in your microwave. Plus, if you zap them for too long, you could end up warping the plastic.
Warm beverages are fine—in fact, many cyclists like to put warm tea in their Podium bottles for their early-morning rides. However, we don’t recommend putting boiling hot liquids in your bottle for two reasons: With bottles like the eddy, you’ll essentially be drinking a hot beverage through a straw, which makes it hard to gauge the temperature and easy to burn your mouth. Extra-hot or boiling water can distort the plastic. Also, please keep in mind that the Kids’ eddy bottles do not work like baby bottles—so you shouldn’t boil the bottle itself to sterilize it (warm, soapy water or a run through the dishwasher should be enough to get it clean).
Yes, Podium® Steel and Podium® Titanium can be used with your favorite electrolyte beverage. Be sure to wash thoroughly after each use.
It’s important to always keep the zipper in the fully closed position during storage. Because the zipper is waterproof, it is extremely secure and may require a little force to operate. Don’t be afraid to give it a good tug when initially opening. It will become easier to open and close with repeated use. Lubrication can also be applied to the zipper – we recommend a food safe silicone based lubricant.
The dust is totally harmless—the talc we use is approved under US and EU food contact regulations for use as a coating or additive in or on food-contacting plastic products. This keeps the slit in the bite valve from re-sealing during transit. Just rinse it off with water, and you’re good to go.
Podium® Steel and Podium® Titanium are designed to fit in the majority of bike cages on the market.

No need to squeeze - we’d be impressed if you could! The Podium® cap was designed with a high flow rate so all you need to do is tip and sip.
To remove the tube from the reservoir (or to take off the bite valve), soak the end of the reservoir with the tube connection in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. This should soften the plastic and make it easier to pull the tube off. You can use the same trick to reattach the tube or bite valve: soak everything in warm water before pushing the parts back together. Once the plastic cools, it will firm up and seal itself more securely.
We do not recommend drinking hot beverages from the Podium® Cap. If you are interested in using Podium® Steel or Podium® Titanium for hot beverages give our HOT CAP lid a try.
Yes, the Mud Cap accessory will fit on all current Podium® bottles.
No way. CamelBak Eddy+ bottles and Eddy and Eddy+ kids bottles are designed and tested to be fully compliant with US and EU child-safety laws, including Consumer Product Safety Commission standards that regulate lead content in inks.
The self-sealing silicone can sometimes seal tightly in transit. To open it up, squeeze the bite valve and twist & roll between your fingertips (soaking the bite valve in tea temperature water beforehand may help). This should loosen the seal and open it up for drinking. If you’re still experiencing problems, please request a new bite valve using ourGot Your Bak Warranty Claims procedure.
It depends on what kind of bottle you have. Our Tritan (i.e., plastic) Chute, eddy+ and Podium bottles are safe to freeze—just make sure you only fill them ¾ full so there’s room for the water to expand. If you’re using a bottle with a bite valve (like the eddy), you might want to remove the cap before putting it in the freezer—otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the ice in the straw to thaw before you can drink anything. We don’t recommend freezing the stainless steel, glass or Groove bottles, though you can certainly fill them with ice cubes if you like your water extra cold.
If a product is labeled with “10 hours cold”, this means refrigerated water without ice stored in the product will still be cool approximately 10 hours later. If a product is labeled “6 hours hot”, this means that freshly brewed coffee or tea stored in the product will still be warm approximately 6 hours later. For Podium bottles we do not provide hours cold. Rather we provide a multiplier, for instance 2X, to compare insulated versus uninsulated Podium bottles.
Although Podium® Steel and Podium® Titanium bottles are extremely durable, they will likely show some wear eventually with repeated use in any type of bike cage. We like to see these scrapes and scratches as reminders of our favorite rides over the years.
The bright blue tube underneath the Podium® cap is the “Vent Tube.” It is the secret to unlocking a high rate of water flow when you drink from the bottle. The Vent Tube allows air to enter the vessel, displacing water as it flows out.
It can be intimidating to pack for a long day riding. For a safe and enjoyable day out on the trails, CamelBak athlete Eric Porter focuses on 4 key areas in addition to bringing plenty of water: Repair: Flat tires are among the most common issues, so you might need an inner tube and pump in addition to a tool kit. First aid: Make sure to bring the basics to stabilize common injuries so you can have a safe ride. Food: Keep up your energy with easy-to-access snacks. Weather prep: Make sure to bring gear you might need if the weather changes (jacket, rain gear, etc).
Podium® Steel and Podium® Titanium feature a familiar twist lockout. When the lockout is in the closed position it is leakproof.
Don’t put your dirty pack in the washer, as doing so could potentially damage the straps or buckles. Instead, take your pack outside and rinse it off with a garden hose. If it’s extra super dirty, dunk your empty pack in a bucket or bathtub of soapy water, scrub it down, then rinse and hang it up to dry.
If you’re having difficulty with your Crux® reservoir leaking, the issue may be that the lid hasn’t properly sealed. The most important part of getting a good seal is ensuring that the threads of the reservoir lid are lined up properly before screwing the lid closed. The simplest way to do this is to put the lid on and then turn counterclockwise until you hear a click as the threads line up properly. Once you hear the click, turn the lid clockwise until tight. Then you should have the perfect seal. If you’re having issues with leaking from somewhere other than the bladder lid, you can check out ourGot Your Bak Warranty to learn more and process a claim.
While personal preference is the biggest factor in what kind of pack works best for you, there are a few rules of thumb to follow. Waist Packs: Whether you want to call it a fanny pack, hip pack, or waist belt, these packs are perfect for a quick ride. They have space for water and just the essentials. Vests: Our Chase Bike Vest gives you more storage space than a waist pack, but still keeps your ride light. The vest design keeps your essentials (like fuel and phone) easily accessible and close to the body to prevent annoying bouncing. It’s minimal but offers space for a little extra cargo. Backpacks: Our bike packs offer anywhere from 1L to 17L of storage in addition to hydration. Depending on whether you’re bringing along just a light shed layer or food, layers, and gear, there’s a pack for you.
The medical-grade stainless steel we use for our stainless eddy and Groove bottles resists stains, scratches and corrosions, and it’s also naturally free of tastes and odors. Aluminum bottles are lighter, but they have to be made with an inner liner or coating that often contains chemicals and undisclosed ingredients. Our customers told us they’d rather have a slightly heavier bottle that’s tough and pure, so that’s what we made.
If filling one of our vacuum stainless-steel vessels with freshly brewed coffee or tea, allow liquid to cool with the cap off until cool enough to drink. Repeatedly enclosing near boiling water may result in product damage. Our plastic bottles are not intended for hot liquids.
Yes, these bottles use our universal cap interface so you can use the HOT CAP, CHUTE MAG, and CARRY CAP.
Podium® Steel and Podium® Titanium bottles are vacuum insulated to keep your water cold. Podium® Steel 18oz keeps water cold for 14 hours, Podium® Steel 22oz keeps water cold for 18 hours, and Podium® Titanium keeps water cold for 7 hours.
Just about anything (milk, juice, sports drinks) works as long as you clean your bottle after each use. We don’t recommend putting carbonated beverages in the eddy, since the pressure can cause liquid to spurt out of the straw. However, it’s fine to put carbonated drinks in the Chute or Podium series bottles.
If you are experiencing a slow leak from leaving the zipper in the open position, the first step is to close it and let it self-heal for 24hr. If you’re still experiencing a leak, please reach out to our customer servicecustomer service team.
At CamelBak, we would not place a product in the market that we did not stand behind or believe to be safe. No CamelBak-manufactured bottles have lead components that would come in contact with a liquid, or with a product user. Some bottles have a solder point on an exterior wall and that solder does contain lead, but the solder is enclosed under a protective cover and is inaccessible by design. The only way this solder would be accessible is if a user purposefully and intentionally misused or destructed the product. Our bottles have gone through rigorous testing and meet all the required federal standards, including the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Additionally, we performed third-party testing of components of the bottle that could contact a liquid or the user. This includes testing of the steel vessel, paint and plastic cap, which have all shown that lead is not detected in the product. Finally, CamelBak is compliant with the required testing standards from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and with European Union (EU) standards to ensure the safety of the bottle.
Of course! If you’re using an Eddy+ bottle, just be aware that the change in pressure can force extra fluid into the straw, which might cause it to spurt on the first sip or when flipping up the bite valve. Open with caution after take-off. You can relieve the pressure by unscrewing the cap a quarter turn prior to opening the bite valve. Your Podium and Chute bottles will work normally in high altitude situations.
CamelBak determines each drinkware or bottle’s ability to keep liquid cold or hot by using a standardized test method under controlled conditions to ensure consistent results. We do not publish the exact values from this testing. Instead, we provide summary “hours hot” and “hours cold” numbers that enable you to compare one CamelBak product to another when making a purchase.
Our plastic Chute®, Eddy® and Podium® bottles are safe to freeze – be sure not to fill to the top to prevent damage from frozen expansion. Our Vacuum Stainless Steel Products are not intended for freezing.
Podium® Steel is made from high-quality, medical grade “18/8” stainless steel. Podium® Titanium is made from Grade 1 Titanium. Both materials resist stains and corrosion. They are also naturally free of taste and odor.
Water will still flow without the blue vent tube, but not as freely. If you lost or damaged your vent tube, please visit the warranty section of the website to file a claim.
CamelBak packs are designed so you can easily adjust them to fit your own body type. Everyone has their own preferences, but here are some guidelines for figuring out where the pack should sit on your body: If your pack has a waist belt attached, try to set the shoulder straps so the waist belt lines up with the top of your hips. This will transfer some of the load from your hips to your waist, which means more stability and a better range of motion. If your pack has sternum straps, slide them up or down so the strap sits just above your abdomen. This will also help distribute weight more evenly across your body.
